Annapolis Valley Updates, Issue #006 -- May Updates
June 07, 2009
Hi ""

Thanks for subscribing to my Ezine - Annapolis Valley Updates. First let me tell you about some of the interesting things you may expect to see in these articles. I plan to mail one Ezine out every month.

The main reason for the Annapolis Valley updates is to keep you updated on any changes and additions I have done on my web site Annapolis-Valley-Vacation.com. The site is getting so big it is hard to find the new stuff, so I will provide you with links to these changes.

For those already in the Annapolis Valley or planning to visit the area I will also list some of the exciting things going on in the Annapolis Valley for the following month. For more information on these and other events make sure to check out my Annapolis Events Page on my web site.

Sometimes I run across announcements and plans for the changing tourist industry here in the valley and I would like to share them with you also. They will be in the "News From The Valley" section.

If you like this e-zine, please do a friend and me a big favor and "pay it forward", by forwarding this on to them.

If a friend DID forward this to you and if you like what you read, please subscribe by visiting My Annapolis Valley Updates Page.

Introduction

First of all I need to say sorry for last month, I did not get a chance to get my Ezine out. As mentioned in my last issue I am now in Saskatchewan working for the summer. On my way out I stopped and visited my brother Dave in Hamilton, ON for a few days. I also visited my niece & nephew, who are both getting married this summer while I am away. Then after arriving in SK I spent time visiting my son and step-daughter and their families. It was great seeing everyone again, especially my grandchildren.

Then I came up to Waskesiu Lake in Prince Albert National Park for my summer employment. The first two days of work the weather was unseasonably warm, and we were thinking what a year this is going to be. Well it is turning out to be quite the year, but not like we were first thinking. The weather turned cold and has basically stayed that way, except for a day here or there. I am told this is the coldest spring here at the park on record. So cold we had enough snow come down on May 19th that my co-workers and I built a snowman. Then just yesterday - June 6th we seen snow in the air while we were walking between the cabins that we were cleaning. They tell us it is supposed to warm up soon, but I am really beginning to wonder. I have not been out fishing very much; there is something about freezing out on the water that I just do not care for. However I am happy to say that the few times I have been out fishing I have caught a few jackfish (Northern pike) and 2 pickerel.

The cold did not stop my grandkids though. My son & his family came up to visit me last weekend and even though the ice had only been off the lake for about a week and a half, my grandkids went in the water. Mind you they did not stay in long, but they did duck completely under the water. Oh to be young again and not mind the cold as much.

I still do not have internet up here yet. I am told it will be in the next week or two. I do hope so as I can go to the lodge and use the internet there, but I do not have that long at a time online. So it is very hard to get my banking done and my bills paid, check for any questions or comments from my website and answer them, upload any changes and additions and oh yes say a quick hello to my friends and family back home in Nova Scotia. I did manage to get some new things on my website this last month, but alas, not as much as I had hoped.

Upcoming Events

  • Bicycle Annapolis County Week 2009 - "Working towards a Bicycle Friendly Annapolis County". This is hosted by the Annapolis County Recreation Services and will run during the week from June 14 until June 21. For those on facebook there is a great list of events at Annapolis County Recreation's Facebook Page.

  • June is Recreation Month in Annapolis County and there are a lot of great events going on during the whole month. Again for those on facebook you may see a list of events at Annapolis County Recreation's Facebook Page. Or you may check out the Recreation Department website.

  • On June 20 there is going to be a Historic Encampment at North Hills Museum that should be very interesting.

  • Then on June 25 - 28 is the Annual Fox Mountain Bluegrass Festival.

This is just a small part of the many events that will be happening throughout the Annapolis Valley during the month of June. Please check my events page; your local papers or the AVR radio station to find out about other events.

News From The Valley

  • Annapolis Royal has twinned towns with Royan, France sealing 405 years of joint history. Royan, France was the birthplace of Pierre Degua de Mons who first settled at the Habitation in Port Royal. The two towns will come together to promote each other and their common bonds.

  • From all I have read and heard the 77th Annual Apple blossom Festival was another huge success. There were reports of large crowds enjoying the many different functions and events.

  • Lavena Crocker, the owner of Lavena's Catch Cafe, Long Island's only restaurant is going to be featured in a new (yet-to-be-named) 2010 TV series as she was filmed preparing lobster chowder with Chef Lynn Crawford. I hear that chef Crawford actually got up early to go out on the lobster boat the "Georgie Porgie" as they hauled their lobster traps and provide the lobster for the show.

  • Great news for the Right Whales that summer in the Bay of Fundy, as it is reported that there are 39 new calves that will be alongside their mothers this summer. The North Atlantic Right Whale is very closely monitored as it is one of the most endangered whales in the world with numbers totaling only about 400 whales. One reason for this is the low numbers of offspring. In 2000 for example there was only one calf born that year, so this is really a great year.

That is just a little of what has been happening in the Annapolis Valley this past month. I will keep you updated on these and other issues.

Updates & Changes to Annapolis-Valley-Vacation.com

Now for my web site changes and additions.

  • After several comments sent me through my comments page that my schedule of events from my page on the Apple Blossom Festival was a few years out-of-date I updated that page to reflect this years schedule of events. I was able to get this up a few weeks before the Apple Blossom Weekend and was happy to see so many people visiting this page. You can see the changes on my Apple Blossom Festival Page Page.

  • I also found the time to update my page on Canada Day festivities throughout the Annapolis Valley. With this special day coming right up you may want to check out what is happening on my Canada Day Festivals Page Page.

  • Another project I had been wanting to get finished was my page of the many parks in Digby County. I only had a few of them listed before, but I have now updated this page and you can see the list of these parks on my Digby County Parks Page.

  • My uncle and aunt invited me to join them for a evening at a jam session a few months back and I found this such an enjoyable evening I wanted to add these to my web site. I decided to add them to my music festivals page which you will find on my Music Festivals Page.

Well that is all the new things for this month. It has been a busy month for me, but not quite as busy for my web site. I am glad I was able to get a few changes up dated on my site.

If you are visiting the Annapolis Valley this summer I wish you a great trip and the best of weather while your there. Check out my web pages to see what is going on and what there is to see while you are there.

Hopefully next month I will have my internet hooked up and I will be able to better update you on any new events and news happening there.

I hope you have found something interesting or informative in this issue of Annapolis Valley Updates. If you have any comments, Ideas, or other feedback I'd love to hear from you. Just reply to this Ezine and tell me what you think!

Until next month, have fun, live good and love hard!
