Annapolis Valley Updates, Issue #002 -- December Updates
January 08, 2009
Hi ""

Thanks for subscribing to my Ezine - Annapolis Valley Updates. First let me tell you about some of the interesting things you may expect to see in these articles. I plan to mail one Ezine out every month, unless so much happens I feel a second one is necessary.

The main reason for the Annapolis Valley updates is to keep you updated on any changes and additions I have done on my web site Annapolis-Valley-Vacation.com. The site is getting so big it is hard to find the new stuff, so I will provide you with links to these changes.

For those already in the Annapolis Valley or planning to visit the area I am also going to tell you about some of the exciting things going on in the Annapolis Valley for the following month. There are way too many things going on to list all of them, however I feel some of them are worth a reminder here. For more information on these and other events make sure to check out my Annapolis Events page on my web site.

Sometimes I run across announcements and plans for the changing tourist industry here in the valley and I would like to share them with you also. I will be adding a little bit about these in Annapolis Valley Updates also so you can be kept up-to-date on what is happening here.

If you like this e-zine, please do a friend and me a big favor and "pay it forward.

If a friend DID forward this to you and if you like what you read, please subscribe by visiting My Annapolis Valley Updates Page.

Introduction

Well a month has gone by already, wow. I hope everybody enjoyed a great Holiday season and a good start to the New Year of 2009! I had a good December, I spent a lot of time with my family and friends, it was a time of reflection for us all.

Even though I was busy with Christmas and all, I did find time to get some work done on my web site. It is a very exciting time for me, as the site is growing so fast. I want to thank everyone for their kind comments and encouragement on the site.

Well before I start rattling on, (like I do so easily) lets see what is coming up in the Annapolis Valley.

Upcoming Events

  • January 25, 2009 - Join the Club400 WinterActive Team at the Hampton Hall for a day of winter fun.

  • January 24 - 25 & Jan. 31 - Feb. 1 2009 - It is the Sheffield Mills Eagle Watch! Let me tell you I went to this for the first time last year, and I plan to be going again this year! This event is great for anyone who likes the outdoors, seeing lots of eagles, including the bald eagle and for anyone who likes to photograph these majestic birds. You can see the birds anytime during the next couple of months, but on these days Sheffield Mills has other events going on to compliment the event. I am told the mornings are the best times to see the eagles.

  • February 3-8, 2009 - If you like curling then drop into Berwick for the Senior Women's Curling Championships in Berwick. It will be going on all week.

  • February 20-22 - This is the time to be in Bridgetown for their Bridgetown Lions Winterfest. Lots of fun winter activities are planned for this annual event.

  • On Wednesdays & Fridays visit the Admiral Digby Museum to see "The End of the Line" exhibit on display there. This a history of the Digby Railroad and is open from 9am to 4:30 pm.

These are just a small part of what is coming up in the Annapolis Valley. Please check my events page; your local papers or the AVR radio station to find out about other events.

News From The Valley

  • Point Prim is being looked at for a new location to host a web camera. The camera would capture the rise and fall of the tides, the passing boats and the activity of the seals and whales, besides providing weather information.

  • Annapolis Royal, Canada's oldest incorporated town may have to downsize to village status, or amalgamate with the county! This little town of 499 people was hit hard last month when it was informed it stands to loose over a half million dollars in tax revenue because of a change to property taxes to the Tidal Power Plant imposed by the government. The first public meeting on the issue was held last Monday at the community Center. This most certainly will mean layoffs to the staff at the Town Hall to start.

That is just a little of what has been happening in the Annapolis Valley this past month. I will keep you updated on these issues.

Updates & Changes to Annapolis-Valley-Vacation.com

Now for my web site changes and additions. Even through the busy holiday season I did manage to get some work done on my site. I hope you will have a look and send me any comments you have through my comments Page form.
  • I have videos! Yes videos on my website. These videos are from YouTube videos who provide the viewer and the video stream. So far I have added three; the first is on my Home Page showing different pictures of the Evangeline Trail, which covers the Annapolis Valley. The second one is on whale watching found on my Whale Watching Page. This is a great one showing humpback whales playing for the crowd of whale watchers. The last one is about the Historic Gardens and shows some beautiful views of the gardens and blossoms.

I really think these videos will add a lot to my site, I hope you enjoy them.

  • I was accepted into the Google AdSense program last week and have started to add these Google ads onto my site. I have also added a few Google Search Bars throughout the site to help people who want to search for more information on things I have listed.

  • I am trying to make the site easier to find things, and read the pages. In keeping with this I took the write up on the Annapolis Gardens off of the Attractions Page and gave it it's own Tier 2 page. I have also increased the size of the title fonts for most of the headings on several pages.

  • I had to change my Museum Page to add in three more museums; The Blue Beach Fossil Museum; The Charles Macdonald Concrete House Museum & Belle's Treasures' Museum. Unfortunately I had to remove the Computer Museum as it seems to have closed up.

  • As the web site increases in size and more pages are added, it is harder and harder to find something when you want it. To help people navigate through the site I have added a site map to the site. I arranged the site map to show just what is to be found on every page of the site. The highlighted names in the list are links that will take you right to that page. If an item is not highlighted than the information on that subject will be found on the last highlighted name above it. I hope this will make it easier for you to find things on my web site.

Well this Ezine is a little shorter than my first one, but I have still taken some big steps for my site. One of my next projects is to work on my accommodation pages as I start to implement my referral program with the accommodations in the Annapolis Valley. This is going to be a big project and will take me quite a bit of time to accomplish.

I hope you have found something interesting or informative in this Ezine. If you have any comments, Ideas, or other feedback I'd love to hear from you. Just reply to this Ezine and tell me what you think!

Well I wish you all the best until my next Annapolis Valley Update, and all the best in this new year of 2009.
