Annapolis Valley Trivia

Valley view from the Look-off, Blomidon, NS

My Annapolis Valley Trivia pages are full of little tidbits of information for your enjoyment.

According to Wikipedia "In the 1960s, nostalgic college students and others began to informally trade questions and answers about the popular culture of their youth... Since the 1960's, the plural trivia in particulars has widen to include knowledge that is nice to have but not essential, specifically detailed knowledge on topics of popular culture. The expression has also come to suggest information of the kind useful almost exclusively for answering quiz questions, hence the brand name Trivial Pursuit (1982)."

No one can deny how popular the game "Trivia Pursuit" became; they made several editions of the game covering many different themes. People liked to test their knowledge and the knowledge of their friends. More games began to show up using the same format, to test your knowledge.

Game shows on TV that are based on trivia questions have become very popular also. Just look how long "Jeopardy" has been a favorite show to watch in the evening.

When you take a look, most Game Shows are based on answering questions for prices. There was "The $64,000 Question"; Hollywood Squares'; "The Newlywed Game"; "Family Feud"; and "The $10,000 Pyramid" to name a few of the older ones that was based on answering trivia questions.

First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life

Then the stakes got even higher on these shows. There was "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire"; "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?"; "Don't Forget the Lyrics"; "Weakest Link" and a new one "Last One Standing". They all are based on how much knowledge you know mostly about trivia things.

Most of this trivia knowledge to the average person will not affect their life. It will not come up in most jobs and most of us will never be on one of those game shows to make our millions. (Too bad, I could use a million or so, lol).

But it is fun to know this stuff; we like to impress people when we know the answer to some random question that has been asked. When the conversation, as it usually does, talks about the weather, a storm coming up; it is nice to be able to add to the conversation and tell about a historic storm that happened and the damage or heroics that happened during it. Even in shy situations when no one knows what to say - someone will speak up and say "did you know that ...".

While doing my research I often come across little bits of information, or Annapolis Valley Trivia that I find interesting, but not really useful in my research. Sometimes it would be about a strange weather occurrence that happened, or a mention about some special feat someone did from the Annapolis Valley.

When I found out something about a town, like what it used to be called, or an industry in it I did not know about etc I would write that down also. Little bits of history and unusual events have always interested me, little bits of Annapolis Valley trivia.

I have boxes of newspaper clippings and notes that I have kept over the years. I am not a hoarded of a lot of things, lately I can't. With moving back and forth across Canada so much in the last 15 years I have had to give up a lot of things, but I have never been able to bring myself to get rid of my collection of Annapolis Valley trivia.

Lately I have started to wonder what good it will all do me, why do I keep it. But I enjoy it; I like to read over it sometimes, I like to know I can look up different information when someone asks a question.

So if I enjoy it, maybe others would also. That is why I have decided to make up these pages on Annapolis Valley Trivia for you. I hope you find them interesting and maybe learn a little something you did not know before.

Please note that although I wrote these bits of information down, I did not really expect to be using them and did not always write down sources. Most of the information came from local newspaper articles and stories. I never verified any of this information, nor do I guarantee the correctness of it. I am only sharing it as fun little bits of Annapolis Valley trivia.
