Apple Sauce Cake

by Lindsay M.
(Annapolis Valley)

The Annapolis Valley is well-known for it’s apples. Try this tasty treat made best with Annapolis Valley apples!

2 cups brown sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

1 cup shortening

1 ½ tsp all spice

2 cups apple sauce

1 cup raisins

1 tsp salt

3 sups flour

1 tsp nutmeg

2 tsp baking soda

Cream together brown sugar and shortening. Add the two cups of apple sauce to which the soda has been added.

Let foam over the first part and add all dry ingredients together with flour sifted into the mixture and mix thoroughly.

Add raisins which have been dusted with flour (this keeps them separated).

Bake in a loaf pan at 350 F for approximately one hour.
