The Auburn Haunted House

Old Postcard Saying Micmac Cabins at Aurburn, NS

Old Postcard Saying Micmac Cabins at Aurburn, NS

The Auburn Haunted House sat back off the road a bit, at the end of a winding driveway surrounded by trees. Trees that once stood proud, but lately took on the forgotten look of neglect.

The once cut grass now grew tall brightened only by the wild flowers that had escaped from the overgrown gardens.

The house, once so full of life, was now empty with the only sound coming from the wind blowing through the broken windows. The house had been empty for a long time. It would not take a lot to bring the house and land back to life, it was not that far gone yet. But no one local wanted to live there, it was said the place was haunted.

Then one day an elderly couple, who had moved to the states years before returned to the area. They bought the old house, it was going cheap and their budget was enough to both buy it and fix it up. The broken windows were replaced, the house received a new coat of paint and the grass was cut and the gardens renewed.

The couple seemed very happy in their new house and were always cheerful around the village. The local villagers whispered amongst themselves – “How can they live there in the Auburn Haunted House? Do they not see and hear the ghost that had taken over the place years before?”

Finally they could not take it any more and a few of them that had become friends with the old couple finally had to ask them about it. “Is the house not haunted, don’t you see the ghost?”

“Why yes,” replied the elderly couple, “but they do not bother us, they are happy we moved in and fixed the house back up. They are people we used to know and called us back to take over their old house!”
