Belleisle Marsh Trail Great for Bird Watchers
The Belleisle Marsh Trail travels over protected marsh and water fowl land. The trail is great for walking - hiking and mountain biking. The dirt ox-cart track trail over the flat land makes an easy family walk or biking experience. The total distance of the loop is 8.2 km (5.1 miles). In 1990 the North American Waterfowl Management Plan designated 69 ha (171 acres) as protected wetlands, 135 ha (333 acres) for upland habitat and 79 ha (196 acres) for agricultural production for a total of 283 ha (700 acres). This all became protected lands. The trail winds its way along the dyke system on the marsh of this land and is known as a bird watchers paradise. You may encounter three gates along the trail that are usually kept locked. This is farm land so take care to give right-away to the farming machinery. Please stay on the trails. Besides the fertile farm land, the Belleisle Marsh is also an important historical site and Acadian archeological site. You can see some of the Acadian artifacts found here on display at the Belleisle Hall.     DirectionsTake exit 20 off the 101 Highway and follow Route 1 through Bridgetown and towards Annapolis Royal. Watch for the Little Brook Lane in Belleisle on the left side of the road. You can leave your car in the parking lot along the Marsh Road. The trail is 14 km (8.7 miles) east of Annapolis Royal and 11.9 km (7.4 miles) west of Bridgetown.   | Got a great picture while bird watching on the Belleisle Trail?
