Circle of Trees

Old Bird's Eye View Postcard of Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia
A circle of trees is not unusual, not normally. But this group of trees is thought to surround a buried treasure. Somewhere just outside of Annapolis Royal a man was taking a walk one day. He was in an area he knew very well, having lived close by all his life. He was not really paying attention to where he was going, he was just enjoying the day. He had been walking quite a while when noticed he was standing in the middle of a circle of trees. The trees were all spruce trees and obviously had been planted this way. They had all been planted the exact distance apart. The circle they made was about the size of an average sized room. The man was familiar with the history of this area. He knew that it was always thought that at the time of the Expulsion of the Acadians some of them managed to bury the bell from their church. It was always said that they had planted trees to help mark the place. He thought that this must be the spot where the Acadians had buried the Catholic Church bell. Even though he knew the area well, he had not ever remembered seeing this group of trees before. He looked around to pick out land marks and tried to remember just where the trees were. Then he went home to get some digging tools and some help. Unfortunately even though he was certain of the spot where the group of trees had been he could not find them. He easily found all the land marks he had remembered but the circle of trees was not there, nor any sign that they had been. It is said that some treasures will show themselves every seven years, so he even marked the date and time down. But seven years later when he went back this group of trees still was not to be found.
