Easter Eggstravaganza
Easter Eggstravaganza is an annual event that has been growing every year in the Annapolis Valley. It is one of the first festivals held in the spring after the long winter. Everyone is ready to get outside and get together with friends and neighbours. Several towns and communities in the valley have started holding events like Easter egg hunts for the children, but some have added even more events to make it a full day celebration. Annapolis Royal has made this an annual event that has grown each year. So what can you expect at Easter Eggstravaganza? Well like I mentioned several communities hold east egg hunts like Berwick. They hold their annual egg hunt at the Centennial Park by the gazebo. Middleton also holds an annual Easter egg hunt at Rotary Park. The Life Centre at Middleton Baptist Church also holds a movie or video for the children with free popcorn and drinks.
At Annapolis Royal you can plan on a full day with many events for the whole family. The town looks forward to it also; it is put on by a joint effort of the Town of Annapolis Royal, the Annapolis District Board of Trade and several other groups and citizens who give of their time and efforts to make a great event come together. It is a good idea to register ahead for some of the events as they fill up fast. To start your day off make sure to take in the Breakfast with the Easter Bunny. Enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast while sitting with or getting your picture taken with the Easter bunny. Next it is off to the Fort Anne National Historic Site for their Easter egg hunt. This is broke up into two groups, those under five hunt on the Parade Square and those over five hunt around the rest of the park grounds. Sometimes there is a special visitor like Parka, the Parks Canada Beaver mascot or the resident French soldier to help you look for those special Easter eggs.
There are usually Easter and springtime stories being read over at the library for the kids. Several locations like the Home Hardware, ARTsPLACE and at the Legion Social Centre hold craft displays and workshops for the whole family during the day. These crafts might include cookie decorating, wood craft, making kites or Ukrainian egg decorating. In the afternoon they hold a Bike Rodeo, and don't forget about the Annapolis Royal Amazing Race open to kids 10 - 14 years old! This race always proves to be a great time full of plenty of laughs and adventure. At the Historic Gardens make sure you take in the Organized Garden Geo-Quest for both adults and the whole family. As you probably know Geocaching has grown into one of the favourite outdoor activities in the last few years. It is a great way to get the whole family outside for great adventure exploring new places and seeing new sights. As every year more communities are getting involved and holding events and new Easter Eggstravaganza events are always being added it is a good idea to watch for what is happening in your community.
