The Gaspereau Canal Trail
A Nice Walk With Nature

The Gaspereau Canal trail is great for hiking and mountain biking.

It is owned by the Nova Scotia Power Corporation. It is 5 km long and is open year round.

Directions To The Trail

To get to this hiking trail from Kentville take route 12 south and travel the length of the Gaspereau Lake until you reach forest Home.

You will come to a place where the over flow from the lake travels under the road. There is parking on the east side of the road.

The Trail

You will have to walk back up the road until you reach a set of iron gates crossing a nine-foot wide woods road.

Trail Along a Country Road Follow the woods road east approx. 800 meters through a softwood forest until you see the trail entrance on your right.

Not long after turning onto the trail you will cross over a bridge over a stream and then you will head up onto a raised dyke.

The trail will provide you with great scenery

Trail Along a Country Road

as it takes you across a bridge, up onto a dyke, and across an open field. The trail will follow along side a lake on one side and there will be a dam on the other side.

The path is pretty easy to follow and you are liable to see a fair amount of wildlife on your journey. The path will eventually become overgrown and harder to follow so it is best to turn around at this point.

So have you ever hiked the Gaspereau Canal Trail? I hear that several people go fishing around there; did you catch a "big one" there? Maybe you took a nice close-up picture of some of the wild life along the way. We would love to hear about your trip!

Why not share your experience with us! It's so easy! Just follow this link to find the spot to write your story and submit your photo. We would love to hear about your story.
