The Ghost Fisherman

Looking Across at Victoria Beach Wharf from Digby There have been several stories told about a Ghost Fisherman. This one is susposed to have happened in Victoria Beach, Nova Scotia. If you have ever been to the wharf at Victoria Beach you have seen all the little fish shacks along the road by the wharf. These shacks are used for various reasons including storage, but many remain basically empty at times. A young boy was about to go out with the adults on a fishing trip. He was all excited about going out on the boat, it was his first trip. He went to bed very early the night before, which was good because it had taken him a long time to fall asleep. But he was wide awake even at the early hours of the morning when he had to meet the others at the boat. It was a bright moonlit night and he was walking down the steep hill when he seen a man walking ahead of him. The man was all dressed in his yellow oilskins and thinking he knew him the boy called out. There was no answer so the boy yelled again. The boy was troubled about this, usually even if people in the area do not know you they will speak to you. He followed the old man until he disappeared into one of the fish shacks that had an open door. Thinking now that it may be a joke the boy lit a match and looked into the shack. It was totally empty, there was no one in there and the door was the only way out. He knew he had seen the man go in there, or was it a ghost fisherman? A little while after this an older fisherman was walking in the same place about the same time at night. He also saw a man in yellow oilskins walking ahead of him as he came down the hill. He thought it was a friend of his and called his name, but the man did not answer. The fisherman caught up to the man in the oilskins and grabbed his arm, meaning to stop him, but there was no arm to grab onto. There was nothing at all, the man had disappeared.
