If You Dream It

Parker's Cove Wharf, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia
Do you believe in dreams? There are those that claim if you dream the same dream over and over again it will come true. Well way back to the time when Parker’s Cove was a busy little fishing village only accessed by water or a horse and carriage over a rough path over the mountain a local man there had the same dream for three nights in a row. In the dream he was told of money being buried at Big Pond. The dream showed him how to drain the pond and where to dig after to find a huge amount of riches. The dream would always end the same, a voice almost screaming at him to go and get it. He never did act on the dream; he did not really believe just because if you dream it that it can come true. He got married and tried to forget about the dream, but it was always in the back of his mind. Then one day a stranger arrived in the village. It was an old lady who said she was on her way to the “Poor House”. This did not really make sense as she did not have to cross the mountain to get to the “Poor Farm” which was what she surely had meant. The old lady ended up at the home of the man who had the dream years before. She knocked on the door and asked the wife if she would have a bite for her to eat. The wife being a kindly person invited the old woman in and gave her something to eat. Then the old lady asked her if she wanted her fortune told in return for her hospitality. The wife figured why not, it may be fun to see what this complete stranger would have to say. The old lady first told her that they were going to have another child among a few other little bits of information of things past and in the future. Then she turned to the wife and said “Your husband dreamed for three nights running about a treasure, where it was and even how to get it. If he would get this treasure he would have enough money to lay out around the province in a line twice. But if he did not go after the treasure then nobody would ever have it.” After this the husband did decide to try to find the treasure. He found some help and went at night and drained the pond. Never speaking a word while they worked they started to dig, but it was so hard digging they eventually gave up and went home. As far as anyone knows that treasure is still buried there, and there is still no proof that if you dream it, it will come true.
