The Margaretsville Mystery Woman

An Old Postcard of Margaretsville, Nova Scotia

An Old Postcard of Margaretsville, Nova Scotia

The Margaretsville mystery woman has been written in many books on ghost stories of the area. It has not really ever been proven if she was a ghost or just a mystery.

It was a quiet evening in the little village of Margaretsville, many years ago in 1910 when a mysterious well dressed lady showed up in the village.

The lady was a stranger to the area so people took notice of her. But she said not a word to anyone and headed straight to this one house and knocked on the door.

The people inside were friendly people and answered the door. Still without saying a word she walked in past them and sat at the kitchen table.

The family tried to talk to her, to find out who she was or what she wanted, but the woman just sat there, saying nothing.

They offered her food and water, but she wanted neither, she just sat there.

Thinking that maybe she was deaf they even got out a pencil and paper and tried to communicate with her this way. The son even went so far as bringing in someone who could do sign language, but to no avail. It was just like she did not even realize they were there.

It was a cold night outside, and the lady did not seem to be dressed for the cold, so the family decided to let her stay to keep warm.

They waited with her all night long, for twelve hours they sat with her in silence.

When morning came the Margaretsville mystery woman just stood up, turned and walked out the door. Not a word had been said, no explanation of what she wanted or who she was and she was never heard from or seen again.
