The Plaster Pit

The plaster pit is a rather comical story that has been handed down over the years.

A man in the Kentville area was building a new house for his bride. He was buying his plaster off a local guy who had a pit that went under his barn.

The house was not quite finished when the owner of the plaster pit said he could not sell any more as he was getting concerned about the hole caving in and he would loose his barn. This provided a real problem for the house builder.

Not long after he had a friend of his stop by for a visit. The conversation eventually turned to how he was coming on the house and he told his friend about not having enough plaster to finish it.

The friend suggested that as it was night and no one would see them they should harness up the horse and go take some from the guy’s hole. He would probably never miss it and even if he did he would not know who took it. The man was in need of the plaster so agreed with the plan.

While they were digging out the plaster they heard a group of men coming near. The men had been drinking and were quite loud as they were passing by.

The two friends hid in the hole and waited for them to go by, but suddenly one of them said “Hey did you know this place is supposed to be haunted? Let’s go see if the devil is down in that hole.”

It was a dark night and even though the two in the hole could see out the men on top could not see them in the plaster pit. The brave guy got close to the hole and hollered down “Hey Mr. Devil, Are you down there? If you are there say something.”

The friend down in the hole answered “Yes I am here! If you do not come down here then I will be right up to get you!”

This was way more than the guys on top had expected and they took off in a scared run, or I should say stumble as they dropped a couple bottles of rum on their way.
