Smiths Cove Trails

Smiths Cove Trails are easy walking trails located throughout Smith's Cove, Digby County, Nova Scotia.

This quaint little village of Smiths Cove offers great places to stay for the vacationers and beautiful sights for them while they are there. They also offer some nice walking trails around the area.

Named after Loyalist Jeremiah Smith, Smiths Cove has become one of the most sought after places to stay in the area. There are many fine inns and cottage rentals throughout the village along with camping parks. From almost anywhere in the village you can experience breathtaking views of the Annapolis Basin and the Digby Gut.

You are never far from the cobbled beaches which are great for beachcombing or enjoying the fresh air and scenery. It is also just minutes away from larger centers like Digby, Bear River and Annapolis Royal.

The first of the Smiths Cove Trails leads you by the Cottage Colony on the Harbourview Road. This is a nice easy walk around the cottages.

Another trail follows along the old rail line of the Dominion Atlantic Railway and leads you to the Bear River Lighthouse. This is a nice hike with some nice views of the Annapolis Basin along the way.

The last trail is to the Smiths Cove look off on top of the hill overlooking Smiths Cove. From here you can see Smiths Cove, Bear River, Bear Island, Digby and the Annapolis Basin. If your timing is right you will also be able to observe the Bay Ferry "Princess of Acadia" as it enters or leaves the Digby Gut on it's route from Digby to Saint John, New Brunswick. There is an interpretive sign at the top of the hill for your information.
